  • Starting out.

Well then, I've downloaded RPG Maker XP, and given it a thorough lookover. It's quite an in depth program, which at the moment, is very overwhelming, but I can appreciate the amount of depth the creators have taken in it's execution. I feel I could create a great end result from RMXP (Abbrievation for RPG Maker, I'll be using it a lot :P)

One of the first steps before getting into the actual process of making the game, is to come up with characters, and a short plotline. Now, thinking off the top of my head, I originally had no ideas, but I decided to raid my folders, filled with writing for inspiration. And what should I find, but the beginning of a story I started writing. It's given me the first scene in my story, two main characters, a name for the city, and a possible plotline. I amaze myself sometimes :P. I suppose I might as well go on and write here, my findings.

Ok, so basically, the main character of the story is Lucan. He's in his early 20's, and lives with his sister Syna. Lucan is a determined, rock hard person, and has trust issues. They stem from his parents abandoning he, and his sister, as children. He's got issues with both his parents, and he's been distrustful of strangers ever since. He only really trusts his sister, Syna.

Syna's happy go lucky, and always on the go. She loves to play pranks, and loves the thrill of stealing. Very much a tomboy, she also loves to fight. She somewhat stands up for her parents, defending them, when Lucan goes on one of his rants.

For a living, these two are thieves. Nothing high quality, they mainly pickpocket.

For the opening, taken from an excerpt from the story, Lucan suggests that they go and steal something worth real value, so they can move out of the slums. That's pretty much as far as I've gotten in the story. I've also written a sort of 'crisis' the world is in, which could stem into the main plot, but I'll keep that a secret for now :P

  • My career choice, and the beginning of my project.

Ok, so I guess it's time I let y'all in on a little bit of my life. My whole life, I've been an avid gamer. My days and some nights, have been filled with my face, staring at a TV, as I blast on some baddies, or something along those lines, playing a videogame. Now, of course, living a life like that, of course eliminates most of your social life. Now I'm 19, and quite sheepishly, I admit to never having a job at the time of writing. :P

Now, I guess I need to get around to doing something about that, lol. In regards to where I should go for work, there's retail, office jobs, construction, but bleh. None of that's for me. I've decided to head down the path of what I've been doing my whole life. Videogames. Specifically, I want to someday, become a games designer. These guys have got the best job in the world, IMO. They basically, are the guys who "write" the stories for games. They "think up the levels". They "makes missions" and the best part is, they get paid to do it. These guys are essentially, bosses. They tell the programmers, and gfx artists what they want, and how they want it, and they go through and do it. They make sure everyone is on task, and that the best possible product is made. Now, I believe that's where I wanna be in a few years down the line. But getting there is no picnic. I've done a couple of days of research, on how people get into the industry, and I believe I've found a way to give me some practice, and a project to put my creative juices into, shall we say. :P

I've decided to create my own game. Now of course, I've had very little programming experience, and I can't draw to save my life :P But what I'm going to do, is use a game generator program. That is, a program that provides you with the tablet of what you wanna do, and all the instruments to do it, and all you've gotta do, is just make it. I've decided to give a shot at using RPG Maker XP. I'v used an earlier RPG maker on the PS1, and I felt that it was decent, but I would be far better off with a mouse. So yay the fact that this is a PC version. :P I've given it a look, and it appears to create RPG's at a very good level. Now, while the graphics I give it, will hopefully be as pretty as possible, the main objective, is to give the game, the best story, best characters, the best overall experience, I can give it. That's what a games developer aims for, and hopes to achieve at the top level.

This blog, will be dedicated to the creation process I go through. From initially creating the characters, to writing the script, to bug testing. I'm planning on doing a full blog on what I'm working on. I hope all who read this, can get a good glimpse of what I'm working on, and for, and I hope of course, to make a great game worth playing. I hope you enjoy me! :)
